Repairing Flood Damage at Balavidyalaya School for Young Deaf Children

Balavidyalaya School for Young Deaf Children & Institute for Teacher Training has been a grantee organization of the Apex Foundation for many years. Balavidyalaya is a nonresidential, private and nonprofit voluntary educational center for babies and pre-school children with hearing impairment, from 0 to 5 years. The school believes it is the birth right of every child to speak. It does this by diagnosing hearing impairments, providing and fitting hearing aids, and running educational programs for children, parents, and educators.

The school experienced extensive damage during the major flooding in Chennai, India in December, 2015. Apex Foundation stepped in to help replace flooring that was overridden with mold, and build a new set of stairs to prevent future flooding. These improvements ensure the children have a safe place to play and learn – without the risk of illness from mold.

Honorary Vice Principal, Dr. Meera Suresh, provided us with an update and images of the recent repairs. We are glad to support the fulfillment of Balavidyalaya’ s mission to help all children learn to speak!
